Calling all inventors and visionaries! DHL couriers need your help to deal with the ever-increasing quantity of packages they deliver.
This year’s DHL Robotics Challenge requires you to design the prototype of a self-driving delivery cart that can autonomously accompany our postmen and women during last-mile delivery. Your prototype must be able to traverse typical urban and rural landscapes at walking speed while carrying parcels, saving our couriers the tiresome task of manually pushing a trolley.
How to enter?
It’s really easy to enter. You’ll need to submit a document (containing 500 words or less) and video content of up to 3 minutes in length on this site, outlining the concept behind the prototype solution (see terms & conditions). This document and video will be used for the initial assessment of all entries.
All entries must be submitted by 14th September 2016 at 5 pm GMT.
How is the winner chosen?
Once you’ve submitted your idea, all entries go through a pre-selection process based on their functionality, perceived commercial feasibility and potential to solve the problem outlined.
Three finalists will then be chosen by a panel of logistics experts and will be notified by 14th October 2016. One representative from each of the three finalists will be flown to the DHL Innovation Center in Troisdorf, Germany to present their prototypes in front of 180+ senior supply chain professionals at the DHL Innovation Day (17th November 2016).
The three finalists’ self-driving delivery carts will be evaluated based on their performance and ability to autonomously navigate through an obstacle course. There will be an audience live-voting session; the entry with the most votes will be awarded the winner of the 2016 DHL Robotics Challenge.
