The Turkish Chemical Society and Mersin University Faculty of Science and Letters, Department of Chemistry have reached a mutual understanding to host the twenty eighth of the National Chemistry Congresses between 15 – 21 August 2016 at Uğur Oral Cultural Centre, located in Mersin University Çiftlikköy Campus; which has been consistently organized since 1984 in a different university each year, coordinated by the Turkish Chemicals Society.
Due to accommodation expenses in congress participations, putting a strain on especially the young researchers’ budgets, the five star hotel quality dormitories, built for the Mediterranean Olympics that can host 3,500 guests, are being considered for accommodation. The dormitory rooms have en-suite bathrooms, toilets, as well as air conditioning and they are at a walking distance from the congress venue. Our meetings to allocate dormitories and public institutions’ guest houses are still in progress.
Research topics, exceeding departmental boundaries and becoming multidisciplinary today deems it unnecessary to conduct parallel sessions in department branches. Therefore, five separate parallel sessions, where similar topics are discussed in the same hall are planned for this congress, so that participants do not have to run back and forth between the halls. Furthermore, limiting the oral presentation durations with 10 minutes pressure the presenter about the time and leave no time for questions from the audience. Hence, it is being considered to extend the presentation durations and selecting a smaller number of oral presentations, graded with the double blind review method. On the other hand, holding the poster presentations on different days in groups, instead of keeping them hung during the entire time of the congress is deemed to be more appropriate. The opinion, regarding the awarding of the poster presentations is to evaluate them by favor of the committees to be formed, which is considered to be more suitable.
The congress will offer presentations from five separate topics, with one being the main topic. Moreover, panels concerning the issues in the chemistry education, energy applications, developments in the polymer and plastic sectors will be held.
