GET READY FOR A GLOBAL SCIENCE GROUP EXPERIMENT

Hundreds of schools all across the world contribute every year to the Eratosthenes science experiment, where they calculate together the Earth’s circumference. This experiment now takes place on the autumn equinox day, 22 September 2017.

Once schools have registered for the Eratosthenes experiment on its official website, they will be paired with other schools that share the same longitude. Together those schools record data, collaborate, calculate and share their findings with their peers around the world.

Although the Eratosthenes experiment is primarily a group activity that is carried out simultaneously at all schools that are registered for it, the participating schools can also win a scholarship to attend the European Science Education Academy (ESEA) Summer School in 2018. All they have to do is to send pictures of their activities to the organisers of the Eratosthenes experiment.
