Dear Colleagues;
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF EURASIAN MARITIME HISTORY to be held in Istanbul, the charming and historical city of Turkey where the two continents meet.
In collaboration with the Turkish Chamber of Shipping and Piri Reis University, we will do ourbest to make the congress successful. We hope that you also will share our enthusiasm to study and preserve the Eurasian Maritime Heritage.
This First Congress of Eurasian Maritime History is devoted to Turkish Maritime History. For many of us, the study of Eurasian maritime history unlocks important insights into the past maritime cultures and societies of the Black Sea, the Turkish Straits, the Aegean and the Mediterranean Seas, the Caspian Sea, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. By bringing together the contributions of international and Turkish historians, we aim to convey this maritime heritage to future generations. The congress will also bring together the representatives of the maritime historical archives to promote mutual collaboration and information exchange.
Our aim is to perpetuate this initiative and maintain the organisation of a congress every other two or three years in different cities of the world. Proposals for the location of future congresses will be welcomed and discussed during the Istanbul meeting as well as the new congress themes. As you will see in the call for papers, the large variety of themes will encourage many researchers to participate in the congress.
We kindly invite you to join the congress and look forward to meeting you in Istanbul.
