22. World Petroleum Congress

As the Turkish National Committee (TNC) of the World Petroleum Council (WPC), we are honored to be selected to host the 22nd World Petroleum Congress in 2017.

I am proud to tell you that, the 22nd WPC will be held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Petroleum, the National Oil & Gas Company of Turkey, is the host country sponsor of the event.

With the theme “Bridges to our energy future”, the 22nd WPC Congress Program Committee is working on an extensive program to cover all opportunities and challenges regarding the oil and gas industry, from energy geopolitics to finance, technical innovation to collaboration, new business models to energy access, as well as many other major issues to consider. With 70 member countries, the World Petroleum Congresses attract more than 100 countries and 1500 companies. We are expecting more than 50 ministers, 500 policy makers, 500 CEO’s and 5000 delegates as well as 20.000 exhibition visitors.

Turkey’s close proximity to more than 75% of the global oil and gas reserves makes it a natural bridge between world’s 2nd largest gas market, continental Europe and world’s largest oil and gas resources, namely the Middle East and Caspian Region. Besides being a huge market with a rapidly growing economy, Turkey is a young and dynamic country where demand for energy increases consistently. Furthermore, Turkey still stays as a large frontier in terms of hydrocarbon exploration. Lately, the recent discoveries in the nearby geography have revived the interests of major companies in the Turkey section of Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean. The shale gas potential in Turkey is also substantial and unconventional exploratory drillings in two basins in Turkey already started. All these dynamics make Turkey an important player in the global petroleum industry.

İstanbul, which is uniquely spanning the two continents of Europe and Asia, acting as a physical and metaphorical bridge between East and West, is a city that calmly reconciles the traditional with the modern. In light of the previous high level events, high quality hotels (more than 30.000 rooms), excellent congress facilities and services , I would like to assure you that, Istanbul, with the historical heritage will provide an unforgettable event for all congress participants.

İstanbul is a global city that has the spirit, history, culture and technology. Along with the strong support from the government, institutions, corporates, academia and private companies, we are sure that Istanbul, with her mystical and modern atmosphere, is going to fulfill the expectations in a very high level and enchant all the congress participants.

We are ready to welcome you to Istanbul for this very distinguished event, 22nd WPC on 9-13 July, 2017.
