Project title: Biodiversity and Multiculturality

Summary of the Project:
The youth exchange “Biodiversity and multiculturality” is an international meeting of young people from the Mediterranean, aiming to encourage the interaction between different euro-mediterranean cultures and to promote awareness about one of the important environmental issues of our time, namely the protection of biodiversity. The youth meeting will take place between the 18th and the 27th of February 2011 in Greece, at the town of Leonidio in Arkadia, in collaboration with ‘Parnon development company’ and the local authorities. It is a multilateral youth exchange falling under Action 3.1 of the ‘Youth in Action’ programme. The participants in the project are six partners from the Mediterranean and specifically from France, Greece, Jordan, Israel, Italy and Turkey. Each partner will participate with a group of six youth and a group leader and therefore the total particpants in the meeting will be 42 people, of which the 36 will be youth between 19 and 25 years of age. The main aims of the meeting are to promote awarenss among young people of the importance of protecting the biodiveristy in the Mediterranean, to fight racism and xenophobia through the meeting with foreign cultures, to showcase the relationship between the environment and human society and to empower young people to take action through volunteering. The activities of the project will include interactive presentations and discussions, excursions and day-trips, inter-cultural nights with music, dancing and food, art workshops and volunteer actions for the benefit of local society.
