MATTADOR TERMS OF PARTICIPATION 2012

Article 1. The MATTADOR Cultural Association is the organizer of the MATTADOR International Screenwriting Award – 3rd edition, dedicated to Matteo Caenazzo, the young Triestine talent who died prematurely on June 28th, 2009 while planning his future in screenwriting with great care and profound enthusiasm.
The Mattador Award aims at discovering and awarding young talents who decide to start a professional and artistic career in screenwriting. It is an encouragement to write screenplays able of telling fascinating and moving stories, expression of a free spirit both in terms of lifestyle and artistic attitude, in line with Matteo’s acute observation of today’s world, which translated itself in ironic, synthetic, dry and sharp works of art.

Article 2. The Mattador Award is addressed to Italian and international screenwriters: aged 16 – 29 (as of April 15th, 2012) for the screenplay section, and aged 16 – 22 for the story section.

The Award, at its third edition, includes two sections:

– MATTADOR Award for best screenplay, to writers aged 16 – 29.

– MATTADOR Award for best story, to writers aged 16 – 22.

Article 3. Each participant can present only one work per section. Only original and unpublished works will be accepted, which means they must have been neither produced, nor published nor awarded a prize before. The subject is free.

Article 4. The screenplay has to be written following the American format (click here). Scenes and pages have to be numbered. The length of the scripts has to be between 80 and 100 pages, character 12, using one of the following formats: .rtf, .doc, .pdf, .fdr, celtx.
Scripts have to be accompanied by a synopsis of maximum one page.

The length of the stories has to be between 5 and 15 pages, character 12, using one of the following formats: .rtf, .doc, .pdf, .fdr.

WORKS WHICH ARE TYPED WITH A DIFFERENT FORMAT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Article 5. Works have to be submitted in the Italian version and/or in the original version with a translation of the same into Italian.

Article 6. Works have to be sent in digital version only (on a CD using one of the following formats: .rtf/.doc/.pdf/.fdr/.celtx) in a sealed anonymous envelope by April 15th, 2012 to the following address: PREMIO MATTADOR 2011/2012 – CASELLA POSTALE 1392 – UFFICIO POSTALE TRIESTE 3 – Piazza Verdi 2 – 34100 TRIESTE – ITALY (date as postmark).
NO FEE HAS TO BE PAID.
The digital version must only bear a title without any reference to the author. A signed application form for acceptance (which can be downloaded from the website www.premiomattador.it has to be sent in a sealed envelope attached to the work.

ANYTHING DELIVERED WHICH DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE REJECTED.

Article 7. By sending the screenplay or the story, the author accepts the present Terms of Participation. Neither the Managing Board nor the MATTADOR Cultural Association are liable for any responsibility or cost deriving from the existence of copyrights owed to any third part. The copyrights of all works submitted to the MATTADOR Award remain property of their authors. The authors authorize the organizers of the MATTADOR International Screenwriting Award to publish the screenplay submitted in a collection and/or a catalogue.
Works submitted to the MATTADOR Award will not be returned.

Article 8. The Competition will award the MATTADOR PRIZE, which will be divided as follows:

– MATTADOR Award for the best screenplay: 5,000 euro (five thousand euro).

– MATTADOR Award for the best story: 1,500 euro (one thousand and five hundred euro).
The winner and top finalists of the best stories section, whose number will be determinated by the Jury, will be tutored by a group of professionals who will train them to develop their story into a screenplay.

Article 9. The Jury, made up of cinema professionals and cultural operators and a member of the MATTADOR Award Managing Board, has the right not to award a prize and/or to draw attention to one or other good works of particular note. No questions are accepted regarding Jury’s decision.

Article 10. The awarding ceremony will take place on Tuesday 17th July 2012 at the Sale Apollinee of La Fenice Theatre, Venice.
