The Symposium will be held on 24-27 October 2016 in Antalya, Turkey and will be organized by the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies in collaboration with the Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition Project (GEF/UNEP/FAO) and BFN Turkey.
The scientific program will cover all aspects related to the conservation of wild edibles: herbs and fruits, edible wild mushrooms and insects, as well as wild medicinal and aromatic plants.
BEWS2016 will provide a scientific platform for sharing ideas and lessons learned on the conservation and use of wild edibles as well as raise awareness of the results and experiences of BFN Turkey. Results of ethnobotanical studies will be presented and the use of biodiversity for food and nutrition explored. Other topics include the sustainable utilization of wild edibles, their cultivation and nutritional value, processing and post-harvest technologies, molecular, chemical and morphological characterization, as well as broad consultations on health, diets and the economic and marketing value of wild edibles.
The Symposium, organized in one of Turkey’s most beautiful and historic cities, also offers a rich program for informal social interaction, including a welcome reception, gala dinner, congress tour and a closing ceremony. We hope to see you on 24-27 October 2016 in Antalya.
