5th Annual Conference on Eurasian Politics and Society

5th Annual Conference on Eurasian Politics and Society

Diplomatic representations might be indication of power struggle among the states. Regardless of their size and location, cities have given name and soul to diplomatic negotiations. A small town in south-western Ohio, the Dayton, hosted the negotiations that ended the Bosnian war in 1995. Schengen or Maastricht, a village and a small town respectively in Luxembourg and Netherland hosted most important agreements materialized the European Union. It was Oslo brought together Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and Israel and witnessed their formally recognizing each other through several accords. Kyoto protocol of 1999 was a manifestation of and a call for global action on climate change. Regarding to the Syrian Crisis, there has been two different focal points, one is Geneva Talks and the other is Astana Meetings. The quotations below suggest that Geneva is city where political decision can be taken but the Astana Meetings is for military decision in Syria. As it seems, it is all about diplomatic (political) representation of Cities.

“There is no alternative to peace agreement in Geneva”

Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs

“The Astana meeting will be complementary and supportive rather than substitute for the Geneva process”

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkey

“The meeting in Astana would make a significant contribution to the preparations for peace talks in Geneva”

Staffan de Mistura, UN Special Envoy for Syria

Under the light of these explanations, as organizing committee of the IEPAS2018, we have chosen ‘Diplomatic Representation of Cities’ as main theme of the Conference. Along with the theme of Diplomatic Representation of Cities, papers reading to conventional research areas of the conference are welcomed.

CESRAN International invites panel and paper proposals, relating to all aspects of humanities and social sciences on wider Eurasia, for the 5th International Conference on Eurasian Politics & Society on 23rd–24th April 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey.
