“UNiting for Youth” global interactive dialogue with Ban Ki-moon

To kick off celebrations of International Youth Day (12 August), the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, hosted today “UNiting for Youth” at the UN headquarters. The event consisted of a discussion on UN Youth Initatives and young people’s aspirations for post-2015 development with Ban Ki-moon, four UN official panellists, and over 700 young people from 5 continents.

During the interactive dialogue, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced an online United Nations Platform for Youth through which young people can voice their concerns to the UN. He added that Mr. Alhendawi is working with the UN Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development to bring all parts of the UN together under an action plan for youth which focuses on five thematic areas: employment and entrepreneurship; political inclusion; civic engagement and protection of rights; education, including comprehensive sexual education; and health.
